Presentation

2 May, 2023

Recently I gave a presentation about the mission work God is doing through me in Uganda.  A gentleman from Ghana, now living in the US, is part of the church where I was presenting.  He asked many questions that helped the others attending to understand the African political situation.  We were discussing my current lack of electrical power (I have a small solar power system), and the government’s rural electrification project.  He mentioned that if the party in charge of the government changes, the current project’s infrastructure would be abandoned, and if they embraced the goal, it would be started anew – to avoid any credit being given to the outgoing political party.  Fortunately, the party in control of Uganda will not change for several years (the next election is five years away).  The hydro-electric dam should be complete, and the new infrastructure should have power long before that happens.

System troubles

I accepted an opportunity to set up ahead of time for a presentation.  I was able to place the map on an easel and adjust the support arms.  We had to find a piece of cardboard to support the map.  Good to know now, so we can take care of it.

The PowerPoint presentation is proving to be a bigger challenge.  The presentation computer did not recognize my flash drive.  The TV did, but it would not “see” the PowerPoint file, just the pictures that were also on the flash drive.

My host tried to play it on his computer.  He found the PowerPoint file but no sound.  Further testing indicates the sound has failed on his computer.  However, we transferred the presentation to another flash drive to see if the computer at the presentation site will work from there.  Oh, so much fun.  This is why I like to test things ahead of time (when I can).

P.S. The computer at the presentation site did recognize the second flash drive and the sound of that computer worked.

Community

I am back in the USA reconnecting with as many as I can.  I learned the value of this when I was hired for a job after college.  The job was in another state, two thousand miles away.  I missed family, but we stayed connected.  When I returned five years later, family was the only connection that seemed to be intact.  Every group I was part of in the community had grown and changed.  So had I.  We grew apart, because I had not tried to stay connected with them while I was away.  It made it hard to return.  I value my friends and I do not want to repeat the mistake of letting them slip away.

I was able to meet with some of the people following the service on my first Sunday in the USA.  One of those I met with invited me to meet with his prayer and share group.  They meet on Thursday.  This was the day following the first of the snow storms mentioned in the previous post.  Traffic was bad because of the snow.  The only issue was I arrived late, no accidents, no problems other than slow travel.

I was welcomed despite my late arrival and was given an opportunity to share about the prison ministry in Uganda.
